PG-43: Music

7. Seven Times the Pain

(PG-43)
This song is a tribute to the dog (dogs) that were special to us sometime in our lives. A great many of us get quite attached to dogs for various reasons. Three situations encompass many, but certainly not all, of the relationships wherein this special attachment developed: (1) a youngster with a constant playmate; (2) a childless couple with their surrogate; and (3) the widow with the only 100%-devoted companion she has. When death steals this relationship, the pain is probably second to only that suffered from the loss of a close relative. You probably have to experience this relationship and loss to really appreciate the feeling. To those who haven't experienced such a loss, "Seven Times The Pain" will transmit a hint of that feeling. To those who have, a bit of closure.
LYRICS

He met me after school each day as I got off the bus
Always ready to run and play, always the two of us
It didn't seem to matter that I was only ten
I was Lord and Master, he was faithful to the end
And I knew that I would never have a better friend

And Tippy, I'll always miss you, the memories remain
Missin' you forever in dog years means seven times the pain

She'd greet you with the energy of a 55-pound pup
With dirty paws and a soggy tongue she'd really mess you up
She chewed our shoes and scratched the floors and made the couch smell bad
We couldn't make her stay outdoors, it made us all too sad
We really loved her like the child we never had

And Pebbles, we'll always miss you, It's been all our gain
Missin' you forever in dog years means seven times the pain

She rescued me from loneliness and pulled me from despair
At times she was the only one who really seemed to care
She barked at everything that moved to chase away my fears
She made me laugh, she warmed my heart, she licked away my tears
She was the sunshine in the twilight of my years

And Sugar, I'll always miss you, who's gonna help me sustain
Missin' you forever in dog years means seven times the pain

If God would let me tell them how I feel then I'd explain
Missin' you forever in dog years means seven times the pain
